F
AMOUS HYPNOTHERAPIST,

DR. DON DE GRAZIA

Specialist in clinical hypnosis for smoking cessation

for 35 years.

Sponsored by Outreach Counseling Center

of Oak Park, Illinois

FREE SEMINAR

The program will begin with a free seminar that will last about 40 minutes.  You are invited to attend this 40-minute seminar free of charge and without any obligation.

The free seminar is very interesting and extremely informative.  Dr. De Grazia will show you things you can do to increase your hypnotizability.  He will be happy to answer any questions you might have about hypnosis in general or about our weight-loss program in particular.

SPECIAL PROMOTION--SAVE $30

The actual hypnotizing will begin a few minutes after the 40-minute free seminar is finished.  A special promotion is planned which will allow you to save $30 from the regular small-group price of $158.  If you stay to be hypnotized after the free seminar, the cost will be only $128, a savings of almost 20%.

LIFETIME PROGRAM

This is a one-session program.  You only have to come there once, but if you ever need help again for the rest of your life, you will always be welcome to come back again at a reduced rate, which is currently only $64, less than half of the regular price.

There are no time limits or limits to the number of times you can come back--people sometimes come back more than twenty years later--so this is a lifetime program to make sure you keep your appetite, and your eating, drinking, and exercise habits the way you want them for the rest of your life.

YOU CHOOSE THE CHANGES

It is aimed at causing you to change your appetite and your eating, drinking, and exercise habits in whatever specific ways you want to see them to change.  In other words we don’t aim the hypnosis at any one particular diet.  We do give a lot of suggestions but the actual changes that occur will be whatever changes you decide that you want to see occur.

The program takes about two hours so the turning point in your eating, drinking, and exercise habits should take place by about 9 pm.

NOT BASED ON WILL POWER

This is not aimed at causing you to increase your will power.  The purpose of this program is to cause you to simply not want the things that you want to stop wanting and to have a taste for the foods that you would like to have a taste for.

It doesn’t work for everybody, but it definitely works for most people.  Thousands of people in the Chicago area have lost weight through our program during the past thirty-five years.

HISTORIC PROGRAM

Thousands of people in the Chicago area have lost weight in Dr. De Grazia's Outreach Counseling Center hypnosis programs over the past thirty-five years.  We're pretty sure he has hypnotized more people in the Chicago area than anyone else in history.

He has been a specialist in clinical hypnosis for weight loss and smoking cessation for more than thirty years and has helped three generations in several families lose weight or stop smoking.

He has conducted private-group hypnosis programs in the past in Chicago's City Hall in the City Clerk's office for city officials, at the third district precinct headquarters for Chicago police officers, at some of Chicago's largest and most prestigious hospitals, and at many corporations for their employees.

DE GRAZIA BIO

Don De Grazia was born and raised in Chicago. He attended the University of Chicago where he was a member of the wrestling team, lived at International House, and studied philosophy and then psychology.

He has had post-doctoral training in various aspects of clinical and experimental hypnosis. In 1983 he participated in a series of workshops in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which were co-sponsored by the Harvard University Medical School and Beth Israel Hospital, which is part of the Harvard University Medical School complex. In 1982 he participated in a series of workshops which were co-sponsored by the University of Indiana Medical School, Dental School, and Graduate School of Psychology.

As a young man he joined the US Air Force, earned a commission, and flew in Northrop F-89 Scorpions and Lockheed F-94 Starfires, both of which are night fighters (all-weather interceptors). He remains an officer in the US Air Force Reserve.

He is also a writer who has been published in the United States, Canada, Italy, and Japan. He has won several international awards for his writing. In the year 2000, the Illinois Arts Council, an agency of the State of Illinois, selected his fiction for its annual literary award.

RESERVATIONS ARE NECESSARY

This weight-loss program will be a special small-group session.  We have to limit the number of people in both the free seminar and the actual hypnosis in order to gain the many advantages that result from a small group, so advance reservations are definitely necessary.  There is sometimes quite a long waiting list by the day of the session.

HYPNOTISTS
IN HISTORY

Hypnotists have practiced various forms of hypnosis throughout the world since ancient times. The Ebers papyrus describes how Egyptian hypnotists more than 3000 years ago used hypnotic procedures surprisingly similar to those used by modern hypnotists.
Many early European hypnotists believed that the effects of hypnosis were caused by a form of magnetism, which they called animal magnetism.
Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815) an Austrian physician and hypnotist was the most famous hypnotist to conduct this kind of hypnosis, which is often referred to eponymously as mesmerism, but he did little to originate the theory.
Mesmer borrowed most of his ideas from Father Maximilian Hell, a Viennese Jesuit priest, and the brilliant English physician and hypnotist, Richard Mead (1673-1754) who was inspired by the research being done by his patient, the famous mathematician and physicist, Sir Isaac Newton.
Later scientists have shown conclusively that the results achieved by these early hypnotists were due to the  psychological and physiological aspects of hypnosis and had nothing to do with magnetism.
Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1936) a Russian surgeon and physiologist was very influential with Russian hypnotists and his theories about the physiological basis of hypnosis are accepted by many scientists and hypnotists throughout the world to this day.
In America Pavlov is remembered mostly for his work with conditioned reflexes, but he was also responsible for important physiological theories about why the techniques used by hypnotists have such powerful effects. He won the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine in 1904.

HYPNOTISTS, HYPNOTHERAPISTS, & HYPNOTISM
A Brief Glossary

HYPNOSIS:  Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1936), who won the Nobel prize for physiology and medicine in 1904, studied the physiology of hypnosis exhaustively and concluded that hypnosis  involves a temporary  inhibition of the cerebral cortex, the conscious, intelligent, uniquely human part of our brain.

Since then scientists with modern instruments have confirmed that cortical inhibition does indeed occur under hypnosis. Many scientists believe this cortical inhibition explains why, in a state of hypnosis, suggestions are able to reach the lower brain centers and initiate desired changes in habits and perception.

Fortunately, subjects respond only to post-hypnotic suggestions to which they want to respond, and do not respond to undesired suggestions.  After hypnosis, people generally report a relaxed, peaceful feeling, and a general feeling of well-being.

There are many theories as to why evolution (and/or God) has given us this faculty, but clearly it serves a beneficial purpose or natural selection would not have preserved it so universally.   Forms of hypnosis are found in almost every culture in the world from the most advanced to the most primitive.

HYPNOTISM:   Hypnotism is the same thing as hypnosis. The word hypnotism was used more in the days of the early hypnotists and is used less by modern scientists.

HYPNOTIST:   One who is skilled in the induction of hypnosis for any of numerous purposes, some of which are mentioned below.

HYPNOTHERAPIST:   A hypnotist who uses hypnosis for therapeutic purposes.

HYPNOTHERAPY:  The use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes such as dealing with addictions, habit disorders, eating disorders, anxiety neuroses, memory enhancement, pain, et al.

CLINICAL HYPNOSIS:  Hypnosis conducted in a clinical setting.

EXPERIMENTAL HYPNOSIS:  Research conducted by a specialized group of scientists at universities and research centers throughout the world who conduct experiments designed to reveal more about the nature and use of hypnosis.

PASTORAL HYPNOSIS:  Many ordained ministers in major Christian denominations conduct pastoral counseling programs.  Some pastoral counselors use hypnotherapy in some of their counseling sessions.  This is referred to as pastoral hypnosis.  Doctor of  Divinity dissertations have been written at major theological seminaries on hypnosis as a pastoral counseling modality.

FORENSIC HYPNOSIS:  The use of hypnosis to help witnesses or defendants recall details. This technique has been used to help solve many famous crimes and was used in such high profile  cases as  those of Ted Bundy, Sam Sheppard, and Albert DeSalvo, a.k.a. The Boston Strangler.  It should be used only by knowledgeable practitioners who understand its limits.

GROUP HYPNOSIS:  Group hypnosis was all the rage among the fashionable set in eighteenth century Paris and Vienna when Viennese physician and hypnotist Franz Anton Mesmer was "mesmerizing" groups there.

His circle included the composers Haydn and Mozart, whose first operetta, Bastien et Bastienne,  was first performed in Messmer's private garden.

Group hypnosis is currently experiencing a resurgence of popularity in parts of Europe and America.

Many authorities believe that more people will go into hypnosis, and into a deeper state, when it is done in a group due to the close relationship between hypnosis and certain group instincts and to a phenomenon that scientists sometimes refer to as emotional contagion.

If the groups are too large, though, that could reduce the success rate.
